i do want to , but living on ssp (£72 a week) and paying bills that amount to more than that, so i have to *ignore* some, mean that it is highly unlikely i'll be going anywhere without the help of Brian's credit card.....plus, hotels down there will be scandalous at this time of year

Just ask him and get it booked. Even 1 night is better than nothing. I'm sure Brian would want nothing more than to see you for your first Christmas.....

Alternatively, can't he just come up and see you?

You shouldn't be apart.....it's just too un-Christmassy!
