New York

New Yorkby Emzi » Wed Aug 15, 2007 10:17 am

Me and my boyfriend are looking to go to New York at the end of the year (we're in the UK).

We've been looking at prices of flights and hotels but it seems all too expensive.

Does anyone know anywhere where we can get cheap flights / accomodation?

Thanks in advance x

where would you be flying from? what dates do you want? and for how long?

I'll have a look for some for you if you let me know the details above! i take it you want to stay near times sq?

we got a really good deal last year - £485 each for a week, direct flights and decent hotel close to times sq with breakfast included

i think that was a fluke though

I've had a look at expedia and they seem pretty reasonable although most of the accomodation has shared bathrooms. Not to sound a snob or anything but a private bathroom is a must for me :) Plus, if I'm going to New York, I want to make the most of it so staying in a nice hotel is what I want (doesn't have to be super posh though) :)

We're looking at around the 6th -10th Dec, they seem to be the cheapest return flights, and the most direct flights. We'd be flying from Manchester and most flights we saw stopped at France on the way :?

Yeah we'd like to stay somewhere in the main city itself, near all the touristy places etc.

£485 is a great price! I only hope we can get somewhere for that price :)

Yeah I'm the same about the bathrooms, we stayed here: http://www.wolcott.com/

and it was dead on, not overly special but was clean and central!

I would say to try and stay between 30th street and 60th street, otherwise you're going to have to get buses etc, we stayed on 33rd st and realistically I wouldnt have like to be much further out of the centre (the centre is really from about 42nd - 48th st)

My friend is just back from NY. Her camera got stollen and they have no photos :(

I loved NY, I would love to live there part of the year! Not all the time but maybe for 6 months a year!

Aww sorry to hear about your friend :(

We've decided to put off going to NY for now. We don't think it's likely we'll have enough money saved up for when we want to go so we're gonna try next year I think. I think we're going to have a weekend in Ireland though instead at some point before Christmas so not all is lost - I've never been to Ireland and have always wanted to go :)
